To the one I see standing before me
I can no longer recognize who you are
The tiny wrinkle in the corner of your eye was once something you used to stare at
But now the twinkle in your eye catches your attention because it finally came back
It has been quite the journey over these past 581 days
Your enemy thought he had won, that he’d broken you beyond repair
Little did he know that you would not be defeated
Because the God of the universe is the one who brought you into freedom
To the one I see standing before me
There was a time when you actually thought you deserved the heart stopping pain, the misery
But then the time came for you to confidently walk out in that victory
There was a time when you actually thought the God of the universe left you alone to suffer
But then the time came when you let Him help you stand up, oh what little strength you could muster
There was a time when you thought you would never trust another soul
But then the time came for you to be free and your heart made whole
There was a time when you couldn’t stand to look at yourself
But then the time came for you to release your distress
To the one I see standing before me
You are stronger that you seem, smarter than you think, and braver than you believe
This used to be such a cliché for you to hear,
But as I look into your eyes I no longer see a little girl trapped in fear
You don’t have to run anymore — you’ve found a safe place to rest your weary head
The scars on your heart, they’re healing just fine
And that constant, tormenting play-by-play has finally ceased in your mind
To the one I see standing before me
You are no longer someone I recognize
You have become someone I never thought that I could be
You welcome others in with your countless smiles
You no longer live the life of one who shies away from being seen
You now know that you are worth fighting for
And that even amidst a crazy battle, you can stand secure
To the one I see standing before me
Take heart, dear friend and stand firm in the promise
That your Father has already declared you as victor over this
Take heart, dear friend and watch as your smile reaches your eyes
Because it’s something in which He finds true delight
Take heart, dear friend as you look into your eyes
Do you see the passion burning bright—see the flame is now a fire
Take heart, dear friend and keep dancing this amazing dance
For you have been given the title of “warrior princess”
It has been almost 5 years since I last wrote a poem. The Lord told me that it was about time that I began using that gift for Him again. With that, I wrote this poem for my Identity Class and Worship Track presentations! This semester of CGA has been such a game-changer for me! I wanted to take a moment to share this poem of celebration for what the Lord has been walking me through this semester (as well as through the past 2 years). I am so excited for what the Lord has done, and will continue to do!
With love,
Ash
